Frederick is a vibrant city with a diverse population that boasts a mix of residences, shops and galleries, restaurants and entertainment opportunities.
-
•Rather than expanding our boundaries into urban sprawl, we should be managing our growth to encourage more businesses and increased population density within our existing footprint.
-
•We have a unique and vibrant downtown that can be grown by providing incentives to small retail, light manufacturing, and technology businesses to locate in our midst.
-
•We should support and expand our technology incubators and we should be studying and building on successful economic models of municipalities of similar size.
-
•We need to re-purpose under-utilized real estate, and create disincentives for letting buildings stand vacant.
-
•We need more affordable housing, including a mix of single-family and multi-family dwellings within walking distance of or a short public transit ride to and from the places people work.
-
•We need to round out our retail offerings for the residents to include corner grocery stores, fresh food market, book stores, news stands, and the like. This would make Frederick a truly walkable city.
-
•We need more rooms—boutique hotels, youth hostels, B&B's—and we need them downtown within walking distance of restaurants, galleries and entertainment.
